Welcome to Kate Fann

Welcome to Kate Fann!

Welcome to my blog! I’m so excited to have you joining me on this journey. For so long, I have dreamt of becoming a published author. I’m happy to be starting my author business through blogging. I find great enjoyment in using my knowledge and experiences to help others.

Without further ado, let’s dive in to more about me, my blog, and my author goals.

What To Expect

First and foremost, my website will be dedicated to weekly blogs. I will be sharing topics directed toward authors and other creative entrepreneurs in writing, social media, and working from home. You’ll find tips, tricks, and stories that will help you navigate your own journey.

Another important piece of information you’ll find on my website will deal with my author career. I’m going to share my journey as an author as well as exclusive content on my current work(s) in progress (WIP). When the time comes for publishing, I’ll be giving my audience an exclusive look at my journey.

Further down the line, I’ll be providing useful resources to help my fellow authorpreneurs and creative entrepreneurs. These tools will help you in writing your novels, offer tips on social media and working from home tricks. Be sure to subscribe to my newsletter to know when these awesome products will be offered. I’m currently working on them and can’t wait to help out my fellow writerly friends!

Writing

For me, writing is something that’s ingrained in my soul. I have wanted to become an author for as long as I can remember. I always loved writing. I would create stories in my mind. I would use programs on our family computer to write down my stories and plan them out. There was never a moment that stood out to me as when I fell in love with writing. It’s always been there.

Even though I’ve always known this was my path, I never pursued a career in this. To make a long story short, I graduated high school at a time when writing seemed to be on-par with becoming a professional athlete. It didn’t seem like a practical career to pursue, so I didn’t. I did fill my electives with courses in literature and English to satisfy that desire, though.

I’m happy to say that I was able to discover a career that involved writing in a way that wasn’t feasible when I was in high school: social media. Writing and social media kind of go hand-in-hand. So, I worked on obtaining gigs on a part-time basis to fill this desire! You can learn more on my LinkedIn, but I’ll give you a brief run-down of the writing I’ve done online.

I wrote articles for an inbound marketing firm on the topic of social media in technology & manufacturing industries. I joined a writing company called Coffee House Writers where I publish articles on Odyssey and Medium on topics completely of my own choosing. I write articles on real-life, crazy things that have happened to me on Bolde. In addition to writing blogs and articles, I also have drafted content for social media posts for a variety of brands & industries.

I also had the pleasure of being hired to write an e-book. I wrote a how-to guide for makeup (a huge passion of mine) called Boss Bish Guide To Beauty. Let me tell you, seeing my name on a book cover (even a digital one) was an incredible feeling.

And, of course, I write for myself (for now). I’ve been working on becoming an author for nearly ten years. But more on that later.

Social Media

About six months after I graduated from college, I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Marketing. I don’t know when exactly I decided this, or why, but I chose to focus on Social Media Marketing. Through my program, I was also able to earn a Graduate Certificate in Social Media Marketing.

Ever since then, social media has been an integral part of my life. In the jobs I’d held at the time, I helped manage our location’s social media pages. It was certainly small scale, and not a very involved role, but it was a great way for me to incorporate my skills into my regular jobs.

A month after completing my degree, I had applied to Social Media jobs to no avail. A major reason as to why I was passed up was due to a lack of experience. So, I took matters into my own hands! I found a freelancing website and began applying for gigs to fill my resume.

My first gig was working with the aforementioned inbound marketing firm writing content for their blog. The topics I wrote were regarding social media trends related to manufacturing and technology firms. I held this position for a full year.

I had found a few odd gigs here and there, some related to social media and others related to editing.

I performed these gigs on the side for about a year and a half before my “big break” finally came. I applied for a full-time gig and knew immediately that I wanted the job, especially after meeting the client in my interview. And… I got the job!

It had finally come to fruition – my hard work and determination had landed me my dream social media job. Not only did I have a job in my field, but I would be working from home. (Who doesn’t want that!). I’m happy to report that over a year and a half later, I’m still working my dream job.

Let me give you a brief highlight of the social media work I have experience in:

  • Community Building: The key aspect of social media is being social. That means engaging with your audience and building a following. I work for a variety of clients, engaging with their current community and searching for individuals that meet the brand’s target audience and engage with them as well.
  • Content Creation: It goes without saying, but when you’re on social media, you obviously need to be posting content! I create posts for companies to go out on their social media pages. In most of my work, I’ve done scheduling in advance using a variety of programs. In a few cases, I’ve done live postings.
  • Advertising: I’ve dabbled a bit in creating advertisements on social media. This is an aspect of social media that’s constantly changing and is a very involved process. While I don’t consider myself an expert in advertising, I do have a strong skill set for it.

Work From Home

As I mentioned previously, I work from home. I’ve been working from home full time for over a year and a half. I have also done part-time gigs on a work from home basis and I completed my Master’s Degree program online. Overall, I’ve been practicing work from home skills for six years.

Working from home takes great discipline and organization. I’ve gone through the trials and tribulations of what works and what doesn’t. I find working from home to be an absolute blessing, especially since it allows me to stay at home with my son.  I’m excited to share my knowledge on how to effectively do this.

Thank you
